Late spring in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming brings a plethora of photographic opportunities to the early riser willing to lose sleep for a chance at a short window of opportunity. That is precisely how this image came to be. The early morning sunrises were less than 5 minutes in duration so being in position, ready to shoot, and hoping your choice was correct, was the key.
The sunrises in the Pelican Bay area of Yellowstone Lake are generally dynamic but with few places to set down a tripod making the scenic choices difficult at times. Having scouted this location the previous day, I parked, grabbed my gear as the first sliver of light appeared in the eastern sky, and perched myself precariously on the side of the road. It took what seemed like seconds and there it was - the glorious light of the skies awakening.
