In the heyday of the California gold rush, Bodie stood tall for many years as the small mining community swelled to approximately 7,000 residents. As was the case with many gold rush communities, drinking, dance halls and prostitution became a way of life. Bodie managed to create a reputation which spread far and wide through the old west. Bodie Historical State Park is, perhaps, one of the best preserved ghost towns in the United States. What is remarkable is the general store and the contents that remain, to this day, on the shelves. One is able to spot name brand items still being sold in today's supermarkets. The same can be said of the schoolhouse which still has writing on the blackboards and books on the student desks. A walk through Bodie is most certainly a view back into the gold rush days of our country. With many buildings and mining structures still intact, Bodie provides a unique experience to visitors and photographers alike. A delightful trip back in time to the Days Of Glory Gone.
