A successful evening for this coastal brown bear sow after several fishing attempts in the Silver Salmon River, Lake Clark, Alaska. She promptly showed her catch and ran off to enjoy her dinner. One of the most frequently asked questions is what is the difference between the coastal brown bears and the grizzly bear. The answer is simple: geographical location and diet. The coastal brown bear, as photographed, is a fisherman, with primary emphasis on grasses during the spring and fish during the summer and early fall when they turn to berries for weight gaining prior to hibernation. The coastal brown bears (which may be blond in color) are located in Alaska along the coastlines where the Gulf of Alaska and the shoreline meet.
