Mud Volcano area is a magical wonderland showing the forces of nature during the cold and bitter winters that Yellowstone National Park endures. Frozen ice crystals coat the trees creating a shimmering, magical appearance. These trees are frequently referred to as "ghost trees" and one must wonder how they survive under the weight of the ice and snow.
Within the Mud Volcano area lie several prominent features among them Black Dragon Caldron, Dragon's Mouth Spring, Mud Vocano, and Churning Caldron.
Each is unique but they all have the same wonderful sulphur odor which will remain with you even after you depart the area.
