The answer is simple: geographical location and diet. The coastal brown bear, as photographed, is a fisherman, with primary emphasis on grasses during the spring and fish during the summer and early fall when they turn to berries for weight gaining prior to hibernation. The coastal brown bears (which may be blond in color) are located in Alaska along the coastlines where the Gulf of Alaska and the shoreline meet. They are large and strong and well adapted to their task of finding food. Today, this sow was unsuccessful in her hunt for a fish or two due to the receding tide. She will come back when the tide returns and try once more.

She may be disappointed, Sandra, but her sad trek gave you the opportunity for a splendid capture. The silhouette against the sea and sky is great! f/l

Great silhouette and the title and her slumped posture tell it all. One of my two Picks of the Day in the Best of Minimalism in Photography group for August 27.
