This lovely coastal brown bear sow decided to rest after several attempts at fishing in the Silver Salmon River, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska. One of the most frequently asked questions is what is the difference between the coastal brown bears and the grizzly bear. The answer is simple: geographical location and diet. The coastal brown bear, as photographed, is a fisherman, with primary emphasis on grasses during the spring and fish during the summer and early fall when they turn to berries for weight gaining prior to hibernation. The coastal brown bears (which may be blond in color) are located in Alaska along the coastlines where the Gulf of Alaska and the shoreline meet. They are large and strong and well adapted to their task of finding food. She was successful in her fishing this day.

Her vision provides a window into the ever changing world and, simply put, Sandra has captured and shares with us a simple moment in time. Sandra was raised and continues to reside in large metropolitan cities but has always had a love of nature and wilderness. It was due, in part, to family travels and being an "outdoor" girl which kept her love strong for wildlife and the environment. That love and respect shows in each...
