The bull elk in this image was captured in Yellowstone National Park late one afternoon during the autumn rut. I have but dabbled in digital compositions but couldn't resist trying this one. During the rut in the autumn season, the huge bull elk are frequently seen heading upward onto this small plateau in Mammoth after a confrontation. They will rest and then re-enter the "arena" for dominance of the cows. The fall rut in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks offers incredibly photographic opportunities to capture these magnificent animals at what I consider to be their best.
