The Chiricahua Mountains (known as a Sky Island) lie in southeastern Arizona. For many years this area was home to the Chokonen Apache Indians whose leader was Cochise. A little visited area whose peaks rise to 9,759 feet above sea level and nearly 6,000 feet above the valley. Both Cochise and Geronimo occupied this area for many years leading their raids until they were forcible removed in the late 19th century. The natural formations found in the Chiricahua National Monument consist of mountain ridges covered in stone spires and stone columns, more commonly known as hoodoos. This unusual cave was found while on a backcountry hike.
About Sandra Bronstein
Sandra Bronstein finds great pleasure in sharing the beauty of the natural world and its magnificent wildlife as seen through her lenses for over 40 years. Having been intrigued by many different elements, in both the manmade and natural world, she strives to discover new and different ways to capture these elements. Her vision provides a window into the ever changing world and, simply put, Sandra has captured and shares with us a simple moment in time. Sandra was raised and continues to reside in large metropolitan cities but has always had a love of nature and wilderness. It was due, in part, to family travels and being an "outdoor" girl which kept her love strong for wildlife and the environment. That love and respect shows in each...

Thanks Douglas - yup, the walls are purely erosion and just wild in soft light! Southeastern Arizona does deliver some unusual sights.

What an extraordinary place. From this perspective it's difficult to tell whether the "walls" are natural or man made. Beautifully photographed.
