The cougar, also known as the puma, mountain lion, panther, or catamount, is a large cat of the family Felidae native to both South and North America. Its range, from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes of South America, is the greatest of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere. An adaptable species, the cougar is found in nearly every major habitat type. It is the second heaviest cat in the Western Hemisphere, after the jaguar. Solitary by nature and nocturnal. the cougar is most closely related to smaller felines and is genetically closer to the domestic cat than its related species - the lion. About Sandra Bronstein
Sandra Bronstein finds great pleasure in sharing the beauty of the natural world and its magnificent wildlife as seen through her lenses for over 40 years. I hope that guy was tame! I always enjoy encounters with critters, but a close-up meeting with a cougar in the wild would be too intense for me. Beautiful photo of a beautiful animal!
