Winter brings harsh temperatures for both humans and wildlife alike in this iconic national park. The Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming is heated by the geothermal features under the river and in nearby Upper Geyser Basin allowing it to flow, albeit, somewhat restricted, providing water for the wildlife in the area. The day this image was created the high was -15 below zero (-15) but the short hike to this location was worth the cold fingers and toes. Just moments later after capturing this image, Old Faithful erupted making it the perfect day for photography.
