Winters in Yellowstone are difficult enough but in the vast Hayden Valley it proves most difficult for survival. Little food is readily available and the coyotes are often in very deep snow and utilize extensive amounts of energy to move about in search of prey under the snow. This particular coyote used the road for travel through the valley but scurried into the deeper snow to avoid the snowcoach and its occupants.

What an amazing photo, Sandra. Wonderful capture of the coyote in action, and the shadows on the snow are perfect. f/l
