Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, located in both the states of Arizona and Utah is home to many Navajo families, their livestock and some of the most beautiful landscape and sandstone formations in the southwest United States.
Horses, mostly wild mustangs, roam the valleys between the towering mesas creating clouds of dust seen for miles around. Many of the Navajo who reside within the valley itself have been able to tame these wild horses for transportation and farming, a most unusual feat as wild mustangs have a mind of their own. As part of a major tourism push, visitors to the tribal park are now able to enjoy a horseback ride into the back country of Monument Valley which is very sacred to the valley residents. This experience is not only a treat for the eyes but the silence of the backcountry is overwhelming.
